Explore the beauty of Safaga |
Abu Hashish A long, shallow reef with walls dropping away to 30m
where turtles are frequently sighted. Ras Abu Soma A coral tongue extending from the coast with walls
dropping to 80m, where divers can spot large migration fish. |
|
Panorama Reef A circular reef with deep vertical walls. In the first 30m
you will find a perfusion of corals and a wide range of species. Rose
anemones abound at the southern end of the reef, housing a thick haze of
clownfish. Middle Reef (Hal Hala) A large circular reef with dozens of small shallow ergs.
On the north & west sides there are coral gardens which drop off around
30 m. |
Great schools of Barracuda (Sphyraena Qenie) swim with the current |
|
Up to a depth of 20 meters, Safaga Reefs present a remarkable concentration of soft Corals, with a vast range of colors. |
Tobya Arba One of the best dives in Safaga: the "7
pinnacles" is a shallow dive with colorful soft corals covering all of
the pinnacles and hundreds different species of coral life; moray, lionfish
and sergeant majors. Sha'ab Shear This reef provides great shelter with fantastic diving
possible on both the east and west tips. Dolphins are common here, playing in
the currents on the western side or the reef. |
|
Middle Reef (Hal Hala) A large circular reef with dozens of small shallow ergs.
On the north & west sides there are coral gardens which drop off around
30 m. Abu Kefan One of the most beautiful sites in the area, as much
for its coral formations as for its pelagic life. Blacktail &Hammerhead
sharks are frequently sighted. |
A blacktail shark (Carcharhinus wheeleri) calmly plies the water off Safaga, close to sandy bottom. Accompanying the shark is the inevitable shark- sucker (Echeneis naucrates), swimming alongside. |
|
Still perfectly legible on the square stern is the name of this
Egyptian ferry; 510 of its passengers perished when it sank. Salem Express was built on 1962 and sank on 1991 |
Salem Express Wreck A majestic site, sitting on a sandy bed at 30 meters the
wreck reaches as high as 12 meters and is slowly being overcome by soft
corals and sea life. An unforgettable dive. |
